Initial Impressions: Toxic Holocaust: Hell on Earth

Toxic Holocaust made some big noise with their last album. So big in fact, that Relapse decided to reissue the band's earlier output despite the fact that it was not horribly difficult to find, if you knew where to look. But, now it's available nationwide at most chains. This is the band's second album.

Toxic Holocaust is a throwback band. Joel Grind is the only permanent member of the band. His influences read like a who's who of early black/thrash giants: Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost, and Sodom. He brings a punk energy to the music. His songs are fast and aggressive, yet never losing a sense of fun.

Toxic Holocaust is not yet fully formed on this album as this is the first album in which his punk side started to make itself known. This is nevertheless an interesting album to hear where Joel Grind has come from, and get a glimpse of where he's going to go.
