Weekly Recap: 10/31-11/6

Well last Sunday was Halloween. My fiancee decided this year to dress up the rabbit, a checkered giant named Genghis. She decided to dress him as a dragon this year. We just kind of hung around the house for the holiday and carved pumpkins.

My trial date has been set for November 16. I will not be quite as active until that trial is over. It's kind of a stressful one.

I'm getting ready for a couple of trials in November, which is why my posting has not been as frequent lately. Hopefully, things will pick back up once these are out of the way. My fiancee and I went back to our home town for the weekend. I took her to the pumpkin patch on Saturday as one of our Halloween rituals. My dad and I went to the Nebraska football game on Saturday. Other than that, not much to report.

Last week was incredibly slow. Long week at work. Oh well, it's given me a chance to try to prepare for a couple of potential trials next month. Not much to say otherwise. Another busy week at work, another late recap post, sorry. Also, there's not much news to report.

I have been increasingly disenchanted with a couple of my metal information sources. I don't quite know why. The sources I am speaking of are Metalsucks and Decibel. I feel like they are not really covering the music I really want to know about. Metalsucks is becoming increasingly fascinated by technical groups like Animals as Leaders, Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, and the like. Groups I have never really cared for. Decibel seems to be covering an awful lot of noise groups lately. Is there anything out there covering underground death and thrash metal these days? Eh, just venting.

Personal life is fine. My fiancee is still working a job she dislikes, but hopefully some positions will start to open up that will make a better use of her education.

Well I already covered the entire vacation, which took up most of the week. When I got back there was a pile of work to do and two of my cases have devolved into complete messes. Great, that's just what I needed. Other than that, not a ton going on.

Weekly Recap: 8/8-8/14 with Vacation

Okay, this recap will include my vacation which technically just ended yesterday, but rather than have two posts breaking up the vacation time, I will go through everything in this post.

Last week was uneventful until the vacation. We drove from our home to Sheridan, Wyoming the first day with a stop over at the Badlands National Park. I felt doom metal was an appropriate soundtrack for the drive through that park so we spent most of it listening to The Gates of Slumber. The second day we drove to Kalispell, Montana which was where we stayed the remainder of the trip. We had one stop in Bozeman where I bought a couple of CDs and a magazine at an awesome Hastings. My fiancee did have control over the stereo when she drove which resulted in a lot of country, pop, and other stuff. Not my cup of tea, but I suppose I deserve it sometimes. I was pretty nice to her though, leaving most of my very extreme stuff at home. That night we found a pizza place which is kind of a tradition in my family.

The first day in Montana, we went horseback riding and whitewater rafting. I have done the latter three times now and loved it everytime. My horse was kind of bitchy and mopey early in the day, especially as the trip wore on. My fiancee was not overly impressed with her horse either. But they lead a tough life. That night we found a Japanese restaurant to satisfy my fiancee's craving for Asian food. The next day we took the tram in Glacier National Park up to Logan Pass where we walked a trail to a lake in the valley. Very pretty up there. We should have taken more time up there because we did not come close to seeing anything. Oh well, that's a point for next time.

Monday, we began the long trip home which started with an all-day drive to Rapid City, South Dakota with only a couple of stops along the way. Tuesday, we went to Reptile Gardens and Bear Country. Reptile Gardens has some huge crocodiles, a komodo dragon, and some massive tortoises. It was quite a lot of fun. Of course Bear Country has bears roaming free. A couple came right next to the rental car. Then we headed home.

All in all, we saw pelicans, moose, eagles, ospreys, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, marmots, and some other random rodents on the trails. No bears in the wild though. I was actually a little disappointed.

Weekly Recap: July 18-July 24

I would promise that this is the last late recap, but let's be honest, it probably won't be. In fact, I have a vacation coming up soon with my fiancee that will make it difficult to post anything. We had yet another wedding. This time, in Lexington, Nebraska. This time, I was an usher, so I had to be there. Ah well. We stayed in a hotel and brought the two German Shepherds. It wasn't too bad I suppose.

Other than that, not much going on.

I lost the list of albums I listened to and don't have the desire to go back and make a new one. So there.

Weekly Recap: 7/11-7/17

I know, another late one. My beautiful fiancee and I spent yet another weekend in Lincoln for a wedding. Thankfully there is only one more this summer that I am aware of. Of course that one is this upcoming weekend and I am in the wedding party, so far more stressful.

We have begun training The Reaper to be an usher. We'll see how that works out. My parents may have decided on a place for the rehearsal dinner. Other than that, we have ideas in mind for some of the other stuff, such as florist, cake designer, etc. We just need to get around to booking these people.

Weekly Recap: 7/4-7/10

Sunday was the 4th of July and my fiancee and I stayed home. Since we have weddings out of town every other weekend this month, it was nice to be home. It also meant that we had the rare holiday where we got to do our own thing. It was a very good holiday that involved grilling outside and then setting off fireworks. We didn't have a lot, but we had a pretty decent show. The Reaper was outside with us as well and gradually stopped fearing the noise as the night wore on.

Monday and Friday I was off work. The office was closed on Monday due to the holiday and Friday was the Madison County Bar Association Summer Outing, which for some stupid reason did not allow families. Very disappointing. The rest of the week was spent briefing depositions. I hate that stuff.

From a metal standpoint, I picked up two new CDs, Witchery and Pathology. These are two more examples of inconsistency regarding Hastings. Witchery is on the same label as Nachtmystium and Nevermore and yet, they got Witchery, but not the other two. Pathology is on Victory Records, a label known for hardcore. Odd for a slam death band.

Weekly Recap: 6/20-6/26

I started the week out on Monday asking for recommendations for posts. I was somewhat surprised at the response to be honest. I still have planned a couple of posts next week to cover everything. Expect a post about my opinions on Varg Vikernes/Burzum and a post about Norwegian vs. Swedish black metal. As Thursday is the first day of July, also keep an eye out for my Best of 2010 So Far post.

This week I finished my project of converting my tapes and records to CDs. I have yet to listen to them at this time to find out if the recording quality was any good. I'm not too worried about that though. It was a bit of a slow week at work. I only had court once this week. That's okay, because I have three criminal arraignments Monday morning alone. Hastings continued to confuse me as it stocked Danzig's new album. Still no Watain, Nevermore, or Nachtmystium though. My fiancee finished her first session of summer school. It will be nice that she won't have to study late at night for a week, until second session starts. My friend welcomed a baby boy on Thursday.

Ozzy Osbourne released a new album this week. I am not terribly interested in checking that out. Ozzy needs to retire. Danzig's new album was also released, which was surprisingly good. The Big Four tour is going reasonably well. I would love it if it came to the U.S.
