My 100 Favorite Metal Bands Pt. 20: Cenotaph

I am speaking of the Mexican death metal band here, not the Turkish brutal death metal band, although they are pretty good too. Cenotaph is the precursor to progressive death metal masters The Chasm. Cenotaph's second album is a melodeath masterpiece in the vein of the early albums from At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames. Later, they streamlined their sound to the point that their final album is a vicious, in-your-face death metal attack. Sure, The Chasm is more musically impressive, but there is something to be said for the simple and aggressive attack that Cenotaph pulls off.

FAVORITE ALBUM: SAGA BELICA

  1. Hmm, I've only heard a very small amount about Cenotaph, but you associating them with both The Chasm and the Gothenberg scene has me quite intrigued.
