Red Sox vs. Yankees Pt. 2

I forgot to update this immediately after the series was over. In the early going it looks like Boston has New York's number. Great, I just hope it continues.

Game 1 ended with a final score of 6-4. The new stadium in New York is allowing lots of home runs. There were five in this game, two by Red Sox Jason Bay and Mike Lowell. The Bay home run constituted the deciding runs. Other than that, the story of this game was the youth movement on the pitching mound. Jon Lester started for Boston with Phil Hughes throwing for the Yankees. Lester was a little bit better this night and took the victory. Lester has a bright future for Boston.

Game 2 was won by Boston 7-3. The game was a lot closer than the score though. Other than a four run first inning, including a three run shot by new Yankee killer Jason Bay, the Red Sox were mostly stymied by Nebraska native Joba Chamberlain. Josh Beckett had a better game, he usually steps up against the Yankees, and the Red Sox scored just enough early to take the rest of the afternoon off and still win. Chamberlain plunked Bay in the middle of the back with a pitch late. He has an annoying habit of hitting Red Sox players, oftentimes seemingly intentionally. I don't know whether this was intentional or not, but I lose a lot of respect for him everytime he throws one up and in to Kevin Youkilis. Youkilis incidentally sat out this game with a nagging rib injury.

The next series isn't until June.
