Dusting Off a Cassette Pt. 14: Type O Negative: Bloody Kisses

"Don't mistake lack of talent for genius." This is written on the back of the album. The front: a picture of two beautiful women caressing. Ironically, I picked this tape up on a church trip to Dallas, of all occasions. This is another album like the White Zombie album that I have come to realize is to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Type O Negative definitely has a strange sense of humor. How many other bands can have one of their biggest hits about hair dye?

I do really like this album, and to this day it remains Type O's best album. It has some great songs, but it also has a lot of filler on it, which is unfortunate. They could have made the album a lot shorter by taking out the filler tracks. Musically, Type O Negative is like a weird amalgam of Black Sabbath and The Beatles with some gothic elements thrown in for good measure. A weird mix, but it works. The songs are catchy as hell. Vocalist Peter Steele uses his trademarked baritone to full effect over doom-laden riffs.
